According to legend, the natives of the island threw their wealth at the bottom of the lake to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Spaniards, hence the name of the Laguna del Tesoro, a natural paradise located in the Ciénaga de Zapata.

This reservoir, with a surface area of 16 square kilometers and five kilometers in diameter, is an ideal place to vacation and enjoy the most beautiful landscapes of Cuban flora and fauna.

The Laguna del Tesoro is accessed by boat from Boca de Guamá, through a canal surrounded by fascinating vegetation. This tour is one of the main attractions for visitors.

The lake is four meters deep and is a perfect place for nature tourism and sport fishing, because its transparent waters are inhabited by numerous marine species of great interest, such as the golden trout.

Around it is the famous Taino Village, the work of Cuban sculptor Rita Longa, where the life and customs of the aboriginal communities are represented, including the figure of Chief Guamá.

Among the tourist sites of the Laguna del Tesoro is Villa Guamá, a tourist center that offers lodging to travelers, with restaurants and bars where you can taste the culinary specialties based on reptiles or fish.

To enter the Laguna del Tesoro is to travel to the time of our ancestors and enjoy the landscape and the purity of the air that nature gives in this area of Cuban geography.
